    Thank goodness for Thanksgiving!

    My mom flew in this morning to celebrate Thanksgiving with us. After I picked her up from the airport, we went to S’bucks for a cup of coffee.  There were about 20 more people than capacity there so we decided to sit outside in the breezy 40 degree weather.  We lasted about 10 minutes- that’s when the wind blew over my coffee.

    We got home and I glued myself to the Packers/Lions game.  The Packers won easily, but didn’t blow the game out.  I’ll take a win any way I can get it, especially when the Pack are currently leading the wild card race.  Although, I would have really enjoyed a 45-7 romp.

    Dinner time was incredible.  Well, the appetizers were incredible…  We had little smokies wrapped in bacon, sausage wrapped in bacon, bacon wrapped in bacon… needless to say, I was full before dinner.  I managed to eat a plate of the traditional stuff (which was delicious)… everything was so good- I licked my plate!

    Later in the evening, I started showing my mom some of my video blogs.  Yep, I showed her ‘that video’ (good o’ 64)… she wasn’t too impressed about that one.  But it started a really good conversation that I am really thankful that we had.

    Overall, it was probably one of the best Thanksgivings ever! Too bad I’ve got to ruin it by going to work again in the morning.

    This is Alisha blogging for Jim…he is asleep. I wish I was. So the good o’ the day for today…well he got through the busiest travel day of the year. That is gooooood! Also…I am blogging for him while he sleeps…that is good. He is off work tomorrow, which is now actually today, which is very good! The house is ready for ready for Thanksgiving…good! The house smells like Thanksgiving…good and delicious! What else…the word good…is good! I think that is all for now.  Goodnight!

    People get crabby around the holidays.  Or maybe it’s just my customers… but I think probably most people become tense around this time of year.  I don’t know what causes that exactly, but it really seems true.

    I have had some gigantic crab buckets recently at work which, frankly, kinda sucks.  I really do my best to not let it effect me, but sometimes it gets tough.  Well, a few minutes after a real nice crab bucket situation, a lady who I helped yesterday and frankly didn’t give great service to because I was swamped and stressed came back in a dropped off a loaf of pumpkin bread for me. Here is a picture of it…

    Yeah, she went to Bob Evans (down on the farm) and bought this for me.  Thank you Ms. Martin… I was forgetting what the holidays (or even general everyday life) are (is) all about.

    Thanksgiving week is finally here!

    Being thankful is obviously a good thing. This might be dumb… but I am thankful that I live in a sports town.  I love going to sporting events.  I have been fortunate enough to be invited to a ton of Cardinal, Blues, and Rams games since moving down here.

    I got invited to the Blues game tonight by my friend Mark. It was a terrible game, the Blues lost 4-2… but I had so much fun.  The seats were fantastic and I got to sit next a guy that was taking the poor play by the Blues way too personally.  At one point he started crying.  There’s no crying in hockey! Someone needs to tell him this… I could have been that person, but I failed.

    Tonight we had dinner with our friends from church Luke and Beth.  They are becoming really good friends of ours, and every time we hang out with them we have an absolute blast. I wasn’t sure how this meeting was going to go because I kinda punk’d Luke a little bit this week.

    I met a woman that he works with (more like for, as she is pretty high up in the company).  And I immediately asked her if she was aware of how famous Luke is…

    Luke did a bunch of photo shoots for a guy he knows who paid him a flat amount of money and then posted the shots up on istockphoto.com where anyone can buy the image and use it for promotional purposes all without paying any royalties.  I had no idea that Luke had done this modeling gig, until a few months ago when another friend, Mark, called me from a KFC where he was looking at the nutritional guide display with Luke’s face plastered all over it.  Here is the free preview version of that photo…

    Anyways, this lady that he works with wasn’t aware of him becoming the face of healthy eating at KFC.  She promptly texted him to find out how many grams of fat the new grilled chicken has.

    Luke never called or texted me like I expected him to, so I figured that I was going to hear it from him tonight.

    He wasn’t upset about it.  Some of the people that he works with knew about it, but everyone was going to find out at some point, so he was cool with me speeding up the process.  I wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t think it was one of the raddest things ever.  Besides, this lady loved me for telling her… she thought it was rad too!

    good o’ 125 

    This has been one of the longest weeks ever recorded.  I left work yesterday uncertain how I was going to manage finishing off the week.  Then I realized that this was my last full week at work in 2009! That made all the difference. I got through today and feel strong enough to handle a few hours tomorrow.

    One of the best things of the day was that Ron and Joe picked up Alisha (All the way from St. Charles to Downtown and back to St.Charles)…so we could have a family pizza night (Thanks Guys!). Good o’ times…good o’ people!

    Now I am about to engage in my favorite past time ever….sleep!  Everyone knows this is truly one of my favorite things in the world.  (I wonder how many times by the end of my year of blogging I will have mentioned sleep or will have fallen asleep while doing my blog.  I think we need to start an over/under.)

    I got a call from my boss this afternoon that went like this…

    Boss: Was that you meowing?

    Me: Huh?

    Boss:  Did you meow on the conference call?

    Me: What are you talking about?

    Boss: Were you even on the conference call?

    Me: Oh… no, I forgot all about it.  We had way too many customers for me to even think about it.  Now what happened?

    Boss: Someone on the conference call kept meowing every few minutes, I thought it might have been you.

    Me: Okay.  It wasn’t.

    Boss: Well, we are going to figure out who did this and they are going to pay.

    Me: How do you think you are going to figure it out?

    Boss: We have our ways.

    Me: Oh.  Well, I was helping 3 customers during that time and didn’t even dial in.  I hope that helps you narrow me out of it.

    Boss: I am going to call a few other people and try to figure it out.

    Me:  Good luck with that.  Sorry it wasn’t me.

    Besides this being one of the funnier things that I have heard in a long time (really wish I could have heard it).  I am glad that I was his first call.  How bad of a screw off does he think I am??

    I can’t figure out if I should put the whole post in orange typeface or not… I’ll keep it black.

    No car nap today. Instead I went to the mall to celebrate ‘Macy’s biggest sale of the decade in the entire world.’
    It goes without saying… the place was getting blitzed with bargain shoppers. It was the closest to black friday that I have ever been. My mission was to buy a 5 piece luggage set that was on sale for $49.99 for our upcoming trip. When I got there, they had already sold out of that desired package. Instead they had a 4 piece set that was identical to the 5 piece except that it didn’t include the real big bag that we wanted. Oh, and it was on sale for $59.99. Smell like bait and switch to anyone else??
    After several minutes of conversation and buttering up, I got the sales guy to discount the luggage down to $30. Sold.
    We decided to go cheap on the luggage because there is apparently a worldwide bedbug breakout. I actually thought that was a imaginary thing, but according to Alisha, it is real… very real. Supposedly, bedbugs are attracted to luggage as well as beds.
    I felt successful getting such a good deal on the bags. Although, I couldn’t help from longing for another car nap. The thought that bedbugs might like car seats too helped keep me strong though.

        I believe the only success method of killing bed bugs is having them die from luggage jealousy. If they had been traveling on old luggage they get so annoyed they die. If only more people would get new luggage.

    Mealtime goodness!

    Because (once again) I stayed up too late on Sunday making the movie, I was worn out yesterday and today- which are always our busiest days.

    Today during my lunch break, I took a legendary car nap. In order to be effective with a good car nap, all you need is a cell phone with an alarm and a car that will tune in any sort of talk radio.  Try it some time… it will change everything.

    Then tonight for dinner, Alisha made me white chicken chili that was so crazy good. I don’t know how a girl that doesn’t really eat any kind of solid food can make such good meals.  I way over ate tonight, but I couldn’t help it.  I tried to stop, but it wasn’t possible.  I barely have any leftovers for tomorrow’s lunch… I guess that mean more time for a car nap!

      I think you and Jeremy should compare strategies for car naps…he thinks he’s an expert too. Maybe we could set up a car nap-off or something and have judges that rate you on things like how fast you can fall asleep, how much drool is involved, and how cool you look in your car while you are catching some zzzzz’s.
