Good O’ 105

October 31st, 2009 No comments

I have been laying here looking at the blank computer screen for almost 20 minutes now.  I’ve got blogger’s block.  Today was a good day, but I don’t really have anything to say about it.

All I really care about is the Packers/Vikings game tomorrow.  Everyone I hear talking about the game wonders if the Packers fans are going to boo Brett Favre.  Some people say “how could you not?”.  Others say, “the Green Bay fans are too classy for that”.

For the record, I am not too classy for that.  I attempted to find tickets to the game, but really couldn’t justify the premium cost.

I will be watching the game from home (with a Vikes fan) booing my heart out, hoping that Lambeau will be joining me.  This game means way too much to me… I will just be devastated if the Pack loses tomorrow.  Cheer for them, people… the quality of the Sunday night movie depends on it!

Today was halloween dress-up day at work.  My team chose to dress like doctors for the simple reason of comfort. Today is the only day that we are permitted to wear something other than shirts/ties/suits during the year.  So the idea of wearing scrubs seemed like a smart way to go.  We all bought scrubs at Garden Ridge (not really sure why they sell them, but they do) at the bargain basement price of $11.98 for the complete set.

One guy asked me today if I was a doctor, and I convinced him that I was and just didn’t have enough time to change between my 2 shifts. I finally let him off the hook and told him that it was halloween.  He felt real smart.

Not to rehash yesterday’s blog, but… I looked around this morning for medical items to take to work as props.  I found latex gloves and the potty chair.  Also, ironically, we have a miniature toilet trophy at our branch… how could I resist??

Tonight we went to a Janelle’s place for a halloween party.  It was a load of fun, only made better by Alisha’s costume. Any guesses on who she is??

Tonight’s blog is a long distance dedication to Kristi McGill (thanks for teaching me everything I know).

Today at work I found biodegradable bags made for collecting your dogs poo in a more earth friendly manner.  That seems like a smart product that saves the environmental impact of bagging poo and also saves me from potentially stepping in it.  I decided that it would be a smart idea to try the bags out.

So this is what it looked like, both in open air and in the bag where I placed it on Rachel’s desk.

Before you throw your computer across the room out of disgust for me, know that this is one of those things that Kristi taught me… smashed up Oatmeal Creme Pies from Little Debbie look a lot like poo.

Rachel was not happy about me leaving this gift on her desk, but she was even more unhappy about me opening it and eating it.  She didn’t really get grossed out or anything, she just thought it was weird.

Then I went over to Joe and Kelli’s house and I made a “gift” for Elle.  I showed it to her and she quickly identified it as poop- Rigby’s poop (the family dog).  So, I proceeded to take a bite of it and she made a funny face and put her hand up so that she couldn’t watch me anymore, but other than that she was fine… Until I offered her a bite.  She ran away screaming.  I don’t know that I have ever seen her that terrified before (How good of an uncle am I??).

Fortunately, I was able to settle her down and explain the situation and she laughed about it… and eventually tasted it, and liked it.

I’ve got some serious reading to do tomorrow to make up for my trickery today.

Starbucks, why do you think closing at 8 is a good idea??
So I dropped Alisha off at her small group tonight, ran a few errands, and made it to s’bucks and ordered a drink, opened the laptop just in time for them to tell me that they were closing.
So currently, I am sitting outside on the patio in 50 degree weather poaching off the Internet. Just to top it off… The battery was going dead on the computer, so I am writing this on my iPod (I type about 8 words/minute on this thing- just marginally better than my dad on a full keyboard!).
It’s ok though… Recently I have been loving technology to no ends. I have been hitting a ton of free coffee shop wifi (inside or outside). I just can’t get enough. Maybe it is becoming an addiction… I could quit if I want to, I just don’t want to right now.
Ok, time to go… My iPod is getting cold.

I love half days!

I was super productive today. I got an oil change, tire rotation, air filter, and new battery in the old car handled.  I was able to even spend a little time at s’bucks with the computer.  It was so nice, I think I am going to do it again tomorrow.

Tonight we went to dinner with with my sister Debbie and her husband Ron.  It was great… we went to Iron Barley, which was a restaurant featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives.  I guess it would be characterized as a dive, although I have been to much bigger dives than this place.  Ron and I shared an appetizer of a ‘monte cristo hot dog’. I wasn’t exactly sure what the term monte cristo meant.  Apparently, it means delicious sandwich which some kind of sweet sauciness on it. Wikipedia has it’s own, more drawn out, definition.

This hot dog was unbelievable, it had strawberry jelly and swiss cheese on it (sounds weird, but it isn’t).  I whole heartedly recommend it!

It was great to hang out with Ron and Debbie.  We always have a blast being with them. And the amazing thing was Ron didn’t say something insane like he typically does… did you know that John Mayer wrote “My Stupid Mouth” about him??

I can’t believe that I made it to triple digits!

There have been so many nights that the last thing I want to do is blog (tonight is actually one of them). There have been a few nights that Alisha had to pinch hit for me. I am doing my best to keep this thing going the entire year… as you can tell I am plumb out of ideas for vlogs (and I only have 38 more to go!). I am sure that the year will be over before I know it, but right now it seems forever away.

The goal of this blog is to find the good out of each day- even when I am dead exhausted or completely frustrated… there are plenty of good things that I can focus on, if I choose to.

As for today, it was a fairly manageable day allowing me to get out of the office for a while visiting some accounts. That hardly ever happens for me on a Monday. And then I will only work half days on Tuesday and Wednesday… sweet! Probably the best part of today was the carmel apple pork chops that Alisha made for me tonight… Unbelievable!

Today was so nice!  Slept in real late and then just hung out with Alisha all day.  We haven’t gotten to spend much time together recently which isn’t good.  I like her.  She’s really kind, pretty, funny, and a good dancer.  There are loads other good qualities too, but I just couldn’t list all of them.

We ran a few errands today, one of which brought us to Garden Ridge so that Alisha could get some decorations for Quest.  While we were there I got lost in a forest of fake shrubs and got scared.  When I found my way out, I got even more scared.  I got back out to safety just in time to watch a 12-year old mother breastfeeding a baby in a black club chair sale display.  Alisha thinks she was more like 15, but either way, it was weird.  I ran away into the Christmas section and found a nice french horn Christmas decoration.  I carried it around making this noise… why do I want to punch someone when I hear that??  Good thing I wasn’t by that 12 year old mom anymore, that could have been bad.

So much for morning-after blogging… the sleep was pretty sweet though!

Mark came and hijacked me on Friday night.  He took me to meet up with Jeremiah and Harry at the Black Thorn Pub.  It is this Chicago-style pizza bar just a few blocks away that I didn’t know existed.  It was a ton of fun… we played darts all night (and ate pizza obviously).

While we were playing darts, there were 3 guys nearby, who apparently just moved from Mexico, watching us.  One of the guys came up to me, in a less than sober condition, and asked how do you play- in very broken and slurred English.  It took me a while to actually figure out what he was saying, and I am still not sure if he wanted to play with us or if he just wanted to understand what the game was.  So finally I asked him if he wanted to play and he nodded that he did… so I told him that it was necessary in our culture to challenge a competitor with a 20 dollar bill.  He didn’t understand at first, but then he figured it out… and didn’t seem too happy about it.  I told him that I was joking and he stood around mumbling for a while and then him and his friends just left.

I didn’t actually think through the fact that these guys could have gotten really mad at me and considering their condition started a little tussle.  That didn’t happen, and the guys all laughed real hard, so it was a victory for me.

On a totally unrelated note… good o’ 97 kind of has a double meaning.  I graduated in 1997 and my 12.5 year high school reunion is coming up in 2 weeks.  Sounds like a weird time to come together and celebrate, doesn’t it??  Well, it is actually our first one.  I haven’t RSVP’ed yet, but I am 99% sure that I am not going.  Maybe I’ll go to the next one, which I suppose will in another 12.5 years.

How in the world am I half way to 25 years of anything??  That makes no sense to me.  I have always heard adults complaint about how fast time goes by…  but me?  I still feel like I am 17 years old (and typically act like it too).

Maybe by the time for the next reunion, I’ll feel like I actually left high school long enough to have a reunion.  I just can’t picture it at this point.

I have a lot to write about tonight, but I am not going to (at least not tonight).  There will be a special morning-after edition tomorrow.  As for now… bring on the cuddles!!

I didn’t come home in the best mood today (despite having a really enjoyable lunch experience with a business contact- really thankful for that!).  I was fortunately able to shake off the crabbiness just in time to play 3v3 basketball.

I (and we) had a great game! It was such a relief to play well because recently I have played pretty lousy.  This really isn’t the biggest deal in the world, but yet it frustrates me so much.  I am typically rushing directly from work and making it to the game as it is starting or after it already going.  There isn’t usually a chance to get a mental break, let alone a food break.  Probably why God invented the sabbath (the rest day), because he knew that we needed the break, that we would perform better (at things other than basketball too) after the down time.  I should really seek this out more often, and maybe on a bigger scale than 20 minutes on the toilet with a word search and music on my ipod.

Anyways, we lost the game tonight, but it wasn’t a disaster.  And I had a lot of fun doing it. It’s your typical lose-win (and learn) scenario.  Oops… look at the time, already blowing it!  Word searches are a terrible substitution for sleep.

I forgot to add the link for today’s reading.  Here’s tomorrow’s.

Bullet-style Goodness…

  • I talked to my brother Jeff tonight… he is still alive. He is busy writing some new software program in some new digital slang.  I’m not exactly sure what that really means, but do you remember that old Matthew Broderick movie Wargames?  I think it is something like that.
  • I am still feeling the goodness from last nights wings. Just ask Alisha.
  • Speaking of food… I finished off the rest of the chili that Alisha made last week.  It was so good.  She is on an unbelievable streak of making awesome meals.  I haven’t have a bad meal in I don’t know how long!!
  • It is only 11 days until Brent Favre comes back to Green Bay.  This blog has a bunch of ideas on how to ‘welcome’ him back to down.  I really like the world’s largest number 4 made out of waffles.
  • Watching the Phillies finish off the Dodgers tonight helps me forget what happened to the Cardinals.
