    nothing o’ 134

Well, no vlog tonight.  I’ll make good on a rain check, but tonight I had to work on something else a lot more unpleasant.

At least this post keeps the whole thing going!  (weak, I know.)

    good o’ 133

I had a fairly lazy morning today. My mom and I watched a lot of Animal Planet, apparently this is her new favorite hobby- I never knew how much she liked it.  We then went to Fitz’s (a really cool root beer bar/restaurant) to celebrate Scott’s birthday.  Scott and Amanda were down from Chicago for the holiday and that is where he wanted to go… good choice!

We had a pretty long wait to get in, about 45 minutes.  While we were waiting, a street performer dressed in a newsboy kind of outfit was setting up an old fashioned record player (a gramophone, if you will) and a sign that said “I need money”.  There were a few guys helping him, but their main duty was to set up camcorders.  As this guy was about to begin, the pager went off telling us that our table was finally ready.

I verbalized my disappointment in missing out on the performance after watching such a drawn-out set up.  The guy heard me and said, “don’t be sad, this isn’t going to be very good”.  It seems like he was right… from inside, I watched out the window as he yelled at people as they walked down the sidewalk.

I wish I could have heard what he was saying, because I can’t quite figure out what the point of the “performance” was.  Either way, he did it and got through it, and then went home.  I can’t really relate with a street performer, but I can relate with doing something that you don’t think is going to be very good and is going to be criticized or looked down on as weird.  I’m proud of him… most people wouldn’t have even shown up, opting to not risk embarrassment.

    Thanksgiving part 2… izzle.

We had our family Thanksgiving meal tonight at my sister Debbie’s house.  It was an absolute blast.  It was so good to have a holiday at her house now that she is back in town. Everyone was there except for Chris and Laura (they were in Colorado skiing- lucky), so it wasn’t the perfect holiday… but it was real fun.

We played a really weird board game called Quelf (you really need to be careful when verbally saying that name).  Halfway through the game there was a hilarious moment with overanxious dogs, a styrofoam plate, and a flying turd… it was one of those holiday moments I will remember forever.

Well, we are now within a week of our vacation starting… I am on the verge of starting a countdown in hours.

    Thank goodness for Thanksgiving!

My mom flew in this morning to celebrate Thanksgiving with us. After I picked her up from the airport, we went to S’bucks for a cup of coffee.  There were about 20 more people than capacity there so we decided to sit outside in the breezy 40 degree weather.  We lasted about 10 minutes- that’s when the wind blew over my coffee.

We got home and I glued myself to the Packers/Lions game.  The Packers won easily, but didn’t blow the game out.  I’ll take a win any way I can get it, especially when the Pack are currently leading the wild card race.  Although, I would have really enjoyed a 45-7 romp.

Dinner time was incredible.  Well, the appetizers were incredible…  We had little smokies wrapped in bacon, sausage wrapped in bacon, bacon wrapped in bacon… needless to say, I was full before dinner.  I managed to eat a plate of the traditional stuff (which was delicious)… everything was so good- I licked my plate!

Later in the evening, I started showing my mom some of my video blogs.  Yep, I showed her ‘that video’ (good o’ 64)… she wasn’t too impressed about that one.  But it started a really good conversation that I am really thankful that we had.

Overall, it was probably one of the best Thanksgivings ever! Too bad I’ve got to ruin it by going to work again in the morning.

People get crabby around the holidays.  Or maybe it’s just my customers… but I think probably most people become tense around this time of year.  I don’t know what causes that exactly, but it really seems true.

I have had some gigantic crab buckets recently at work which, frankly, kinda sucks.  I really do my best to not let it effect me, but sometimes it gets tough.  Well, a few minutes after a real nice crab bucket situation, a lady who I helped yesterday and frankly didn’t give great service to because I was swamped and stressed came back in a dropped off a loaf of pumpkin bread for me. Here is a picture of it…

Yeah, she went to Bob Evans (down on the farm) and bought this for me.  Thank you Ms. Martin… I was forgetting what the holidays (or even general everyday life) are (is) all about.

Tomorrow’s reading… hope does not disappoint

What? You had forgotten that Thanksgiving and Christmas is all about Pumpkin Bread? Shazam! And to think I actually had given you my respect…

    good o’ 128

    Thanksgiving week is finally here!

Being thankful is obviously a good thing. This might be dumb… but I am thankful that I live in a sports town.  I love going to sporting events.  I have been fortunate enough to be invited to a ton of Cardinal, Blues, and Rams games since moving down here.

I got invited to the Blues game tonight by my friend Mark. It was a terrible game, the Blues lost 4-2… but I had so much fun.  The seats were fantastic and I got to sit next a guy that was taking the poor play by the Blues way too personally.  At one point he started crying.  There’s no crying in hockey! Someone needs to tell him this… I could have been that person, but I failed.

    good o’ 126

Tonight we had dinner with our friends from church Luke and Beth.  They are becoming really good friends of ours, and every time we hang out with them we have an absolute blast. I wasn’t sure how this meeting was going to go because I kinda punk’d Luke a little bit this week.

I met a woman that he works with (more like for, as she is pretty high up in the company).  And I immediately asked her if she was aware of how famous Luke is…

Luke did a bunch of photo shoots for a guy he knows who paid him a flat amount of money and then posted the shots up on istockphoto.com where anyone can buy the image and use it for promotional purposes all without paying any royalties.  I had no idea that Luke had done this modeling gig, until a few months ago when another friend, Mark, called me from a KFC where he was looking at the nutritional guide display with Luke’s face plastered all over it.  Here is the free preview version of that photo…

Anyways, this lady that he works with wasn’t aware of him becoming the face of healthy eating at KFC.  She promptly texted him to find out how many grams of fat the new grilled chicken has.

Luke never called or texted me like I expected him to, so I figured that I was going to hear it from him tonight.

He wasn’t upset about it.  Some of the people that he works with knew about it, but everyone was going to find out at some point, so he was cool with me speeding up the process.  I wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t think it was one of the raddest things ever.  Besides, this lady loved me for telling her… she thought it was rad too!

    good o’ 125

This has been one of the longest weeks ever recorded.  I left work yesterday uncertain how I was going to manage finishing off the week.  Then I realized that this was my last full week at work in 2009! That made all the difference. I got through today and feel strong enough to handle a few hours tomorrow.

One of the best things of the day was that Ron and Joe picked up Alisha (All the way from St. Charles to Downtown and back to St.Charles)…so we could have a family pizza night (Thanks Guys!). Good o’ times…good o’ people!

Now I am about to engage in my favorite past time ever….sleep!  Everyone knows this is truly one of my favorite things in the world.  (I wonder how many times by the end of my year of blogging I will have mentioned sleep or will have fallen asleep while doing my blog.  I think we need to start an over/under.)
